A study on the oral tradition of Çukurkuyu Town

The literature of a nation is one of the main cultural elements that are transmitted from generation to the next. Cultural values and literature are directly related to community life. Small and big events in a community life affect cultural values and literature. In the developing and changing world, oral tradition products are doomed to be forgotten unless we record them in writing. The main source of folk literature is the products produced by the folk. In this respect, in this MA thesis named "A Study on the Oral Tradition of Çukurkuyu Town", the oral tradition products of Çukurkuyu Town were dealt with and compiled from the people they held them by a field study and a treasury of oral tradition products was revealed. In the thesis, information was given about the definition and types of oral tradition products, the compiled oral tradition products were classified and the classifications were supported with the collected oral tradition product examples. In the first part of the study, information about the research area, the information about the background, aim, problem statement, significance and theoretical framework and method of the research was given. In the second part of the study, information about the method of the study was presented. In the findings section of the study, the definitions and kinds of (Mani, Lullaby, Lament, Tongue Twisters) were given and the poetic examples of folk literature verses compiled in Çukurkuyu Town were presented. Under the title of Anonymous Folk Literature Poetic-Prose Products, the information were given about riddles, proverbs, idioms, folk tales, prayer-imprecation, and the examples from the Çukurkuyu Town regarding this types were included. Under the title of Anonymous Folk Literature (fairy tales, nicknames) the products determined in Çukurkuyu Town were presented. At the end of the study, the results and recommendations, the interviewees (the individual holding the oral tradition knowledge) and bibliography were presented. Oral tradition products of Çukurkuyu Town were compiled and recorded by a field study. As a result of the interviews with the individuals, it was determined that both material and spiritual values of Çukurkuyu Town were reflected in oral tradition products.
