The assessment of men sexual health with shim questionnaire that incoming male patients to the University of Cukurova Faculty of Medicine Department of Urology

Aims : In this study we aimed to evaluate the sexual health of men who admitted to our hospital urology polyclinic and were older than 18 years old. Materials and Methods: Between January 2014- June 2014, SHIM (Sexual Health Inventory for Men) questionnaire was performed for 250 men patient. We compared different parameters that effect sexual health. The datas were analyzed statisticaly by SPSS 19.0 programme. The Chi-Square test was used and statistical signifıcance level was taken as 0,05 for all tests. Findings: Mean age of all patients was 45,19 ± 13,752 (min. 19 – max. 78). Different parameters which effect on sexual health was compared. Sexual health favorably influenced by regular sports activities, sexual intercourse, nocturnal and morning erection frequency and a small amount of alcohol, but non favorably influenced by age, surgical history, systemic diseases and use of drugs. Among the findings, the 89,5% of patients that had severe erectil disfunction were age 51 and older, 42,1% of them did not ever have an morning erection, 84,2% of them had systemic diseases and 47,4% of them were using cardiovascular drugs. Result: The effect of different variables on male sexual health is investigated in detail, habits and lifestyle changes effect the sexual health as well as the overall health. According to SHIM parameters with statistical assessment of erectile dysfunction rates is similar with literature.
