Analysis of problems encountered by Syrian students at Çukurova university and suggestions for solutions

The Syrian civil war, which started on March 15th, 2011, forced the Syrians, whose countries suffered heavy destruction, to seek asylum in many countries, especially Turkey. Due to the fact that the civil war was raged by the other actors involved, the war caused a regional turmoil to affect the entire country and, more generally, a large geographical region. 877 km from Syria. In the border regions of Turkey, which has a border, both sociological and military activities have been experienced due to the war. In addition to 3,746, 674 (three million, seven hundred and forty -six thousand and six hundred and seventy -four) Syrian immigrants reflected in the official records, the number of Syrian immigrants in Turkey, where 1.5 million unregistered Syrians live, constitutes a serious total. Irregular but intense immigration brought along some problems to Turkey; This immigration, which its effects and results can be observed in economic, social, political, social and many other fields, also prevented the reconciliation of immigrants and Turkish people. For example, the language problem, cultural and life differences can be mentioned at the beginning of this conflict. On the other hand, the economic burden caused by millions of immigrants is one of the leading causes of social conflict. Tension in the field of health, problems at the point of employment, etc. can be mentioned as the main elements of this whole process. In this study, within the framework of the above-mentioned problems, it is tried to be revealed by supporting the field research of Syrian university students, who can be a role model for Syrian immigrants, who are among the current problems of today and used to polarize some parts of the society. The aim of our study is to examine how immigrants, especially Syrians, see their current conditions and to analyze how Turkish students see the life practices of these immigrants by comparing them. This study also includes the conditions of Syrian university students and the situations that provide these conditions; It also aims to reveal the difficulties, disadvantages and how they are positioned in the society. For this purpose, data were collected through interviews from students from three different groups, who were educated at Çukurova University, and the opinions of the subjects about the related problems were examined. Briefly, in this study, the opinions of some of the Syrian university students studying at Çukurova University will be taken, and the opinions of a group of foreign students from other countries have been researched for comparison. In addition, the perspectives of Turkish students selected for this study as the control group about the thoughts of Syrian refugees were discussed. In our literature review, it has been determined that there are very few studies on Syrians with university education in Turkey. Research, which is generally limited to articles, focuses on the social and cultural problems of Syrian immigrants. There are studies on the education, health, welfare and employment of Syrian immigrants who have a university education or are deprived of it even if they are at university age; However, the fact that these studies were not carried out on Syrians with universities, who could shape the immigrant community, is one of the reasons for this study. In our thesis, we aimed to contribute to the literature on the education problems of Syrian immigrant university students by focusing on them. Our aim is to present the current situation of young people who are likely to be role models for Syrian immigrants, to contribute to the solution of their problems, and to contribute to their integration by positively affecting the larger immigrant mass in direct proportion to this small community.
