Investigation of Cumalıkızık's life cycle within the context of Butler's tourism area life cycle (TALC) model

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to examine the life cycle of Bursa Cumalıkızık Village within the scope of Butler's destination life cycle model. In this context, determining the stage at which Cumalıkızık Village is in Butler's model and predicting where the destination will reach in the next stage are among the purposes. Qualitative research method has been used in the research. Interview and observation methods were used to gather data. Attendees of the research consist of Cumalıkızık destination stakeholders. In this extend, interviews were conducted with the attendance of 28 stakeholders of local people, business owners and managers, local administrators and tourist guides. Research data have been analyzed via descriptive analysis. As a result of the analysis, it has been found out that exploration, involvement, development and consolidation phases are processed. Besides, signs of stagnation phase has also been observed. As a result of the research, it has been found out that there have been signs of exploration phase during 1980-1998. While it has been observed that Cumalıkızık village had been in the phase of involvement between 1999 and 2014, development and consolidation phases' signs were observed after 2014. Recommendations regarding overcoming of the current problems faced in Cumalıkızık have been presented to the relevant practitioners.
