Abstract (EN)

In this study the general high school English education programs and textbooks which were used through the Republican period were analyzed and compared. In this study, before and after the Republic foreign language teaching was examined historically and post Republic education programs and textbooks were analyzed. Programs goals, content, learning situations and evaluation dimensions were analyzed and compared based on descriptive analysis by using document review method. In addition each program was compared to each other in terms of these features. The findings of the study showed the followings: 1922, 1924, 1931, 1938, 1952 programs were prepared collectively for high schools and they were not prepared separately for each lesson therefore they had not goals, content, learning situations and evaluation dimensions. Examining the textbooks that were in force and implemented in those years, it was seen that the goal dimension English teaching was included in the textbook and it was concluded that the content dimension partially met the objectives of the foreign languages teaching. The program which was prepared in 1973 was prepared only for foreign language lesson and the program included foreign language teaching objectives, methods and techniques but it did not include goals, content, learning situations and evaluation dimensions. It was determined that the programs of 2007 and 2008 included in the program in detail in accordance with the European Union Framework Program, aiming to bring them into four language skills, with the goals, content, learning situations and evaluation dimensions.
