Abstract (EN)

217 ABSTRACT Mr. Vâsıf, who was born in Girit in 1892, is the son of Mr. Abdullah Hulusi, the former head official of Söke. Mr. Vâsıf graduated from Izmir Lycee in 1910. Then he studied law in Istanbul University and graduated from there in 1916. From 1915 to 1918, he was the manager of "Izmir özel Şark Mektebi" and he was also one of the teachers of that school. He strived for the establishment of "Izmir Türk Ocağı". After the armistice known as Mondros, he tried to organise the common people against the occupation of Izmir. Vâsıf Çınar and Hacim Muhiddin expended great effort in establishing the west front. What's more he incited the local people to struggle against occupation forces. He tried to preserve the common people's power of struggle with the help of his articles in a newspaper called, "İzmir'e Doğru" and his speeches. After the Turkish war of independence, he attended to 2. term elections and entered the Turkish Grand National Assembly as the deputy of Saruhan. During this time he drew attention with his avid speeches in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. He was appointed as the minister of education just after the adoption of the bill called "Tevhid-i Tedrisat". In the strict sense of the word, he was the very person putting the bill into practise. After working as the minister of education for 8,5 months Mr. Vâsıf was appointed as the ambassador of Prag. The following years, he also worked in Budapest and Moscow. Vâsıf Çınar was nominated ambassador of Izmir on 1 January 1929 when his best friend Mustafa Necati passed away. He was selected as the minister of education for the second time. Mr. Vâsıf, who was in charge for 1,5 month, entered the Turkish Grand National Assembly as the deputy of Izmir, in the fourth term elections. After that, he was posted to Rome embassy. After two years, he was posted to Moscow Embassy again. Mr. Vâsıf was known as Çınar after the bill of surname.
