Abstract (EN)
Throughout the human history, cities have been places of collective living. Although they have always changed, they haven?t lost their mission being places of collective living. In the past poets weren?t interested in cities. But after Industry Revolution that occured in 1840?s, cities developed and became metropolis. So first, world poets then ,Turkish poets started to be interested in cities.Until the period of republic, cities weren?t mentioned in Turkish poems. In Divan literature period, there were some Turkish poems about cities like `şehrengiz?. But rate of this kind of poem was less and poem level was lower when we think the level of poems in that period. After Tanzimat, Turkish poets started to get information about European poets and were affected by romanticism and like European poets, they started to write about cities and they also had different point of view about cities. During the period of Servet-i Fünun, Turkish poets wrote poems about cities which were about being away from cities. After the period of republic, Turkish poets wrote city poems which were about homesick until 1950. They emphasized beauties of cities. Because there wasn?t any immigration from villages to cities during this period. At the same period, some poems were written about definite cities which had importance effect in independence war such as Samsun, Erzurum, Sivas, Ankara. Poets also continued to write poems about beauties of İstanbul like Divan poem period. After 1950, people started to immigrate from village to cities because of new government?s new economics programme. Some poets who were living in cities became worried about that immigration and some of them tried to understand the reasons of that immigration. When we researched the literature, we can say that cities were sometimes mentioned good/beautiful or bad/ugly. We can also add the third situation to these two views: `places where lover lives, have wonderful scene, are fancy and enjoyable, reflect our bright history, help to remember childhood, the revulotion took place, homeland, homesick, running away, boredom, rebelling, being convict, chaos, income imbalance, home of crime and criminals, etc.As a result of all inference, between 1923-1980, our poets were interested in cities and they observed all events. According to their emotional situation, politics view and poetic understanding, they reacted about the events. Although they complained about the cities, they didn?t give up living in cities.Key Words: City, Citizen, Urbanization, Poems in Period of Republic
