Abstract (EN)

In this study, Humor and Irony in Turkish Poetry in the Republican Era (1923-1938), a total of seventy-four poetry books (in print) published between 1923-1938 are analyzed in detail in the context of humor and irony, the theoretical framework of which is drawn. In the study, the use of humor and irony, which is used as a form of discourse in social life in order to express some feelings and thoughts of human beings, in poetry, which is the most aesthetic type of literature, is examined through sample texts. Humor is a form of discourse that is mostly organized to make its interlocutors laugh and entertain. In this respect, it serves the act of "laughing". Irony, on the other hand, is the synthesis of two forms of discourse with its structure positioned between humor and satire/satire. Its primary purpose is to "criticize" and "make ridicule" of its interlocutor. Therefore, irony is satire in terms of intent; in terms of style, it approaches humor. In the works published in the first fifteen years of the Republic of Turkey, which are examined in the light of these criteria, it is seen that irony is preferred as a dominant way of expression rather than humor. Irony, on the other hand, is semantically more imaginative, indirectly and implicitly embodied; It is observed that it is presented to the reader's taste by being decorated with humorous elements from time to time. Although there were a total of thirty-six poets who published works between 1923 and 1938, it is concluded that the number of artists who make humor and irony a conscious discourse characteristic is limited. The findings and analyzes show that the traditional sense of humor began to change in this period. It is determined that humor -especially satire-, which has a deep-rooted past in Turkish literature, has evolved and shifted to the ironic plane.
