Turkey in the British press during the first years of the Republic

The research aims to argue out the relations between Turkey and England in the first years of Republic, reflected in the press of the relationship and thus the perspective of them to the events. This era, which started with the signing of Mondros Armistice and after the signing of Lousanne Peace Agreement the relations started to deteriorate. The relations which continued in a positive way until the beginning of the XIX. century started to change its direction and then started to deteriorate.England tried to cast up getting more profit because of the Ottoman Empire declince. The Mondros Armistice which was signed in 1918 create an opportunity for England. The Loussane Peace Agreement which was signed in 1923 and experiences about Mosul question affected the relations. Although the relations with other countries affected the relations positively, during the 1930s took place worldwide economic depression and the relations started to deteriorate again. The British press was deeply concerned with the changes in Turkey after the proclamation of the Republic and events on the road to the Republic. In this process, presenting the events to audience, they sometimes act biased although they pursue a policy of neutrality. Despite the negative relations, several British Newspapers wrote in favour of Mustafa Kemal's movement, the British public opinion about this movement was a positive and supportive one.
