Hilal-i Ahmer in the first years of the Republic contagious and epidemic diseases according to the message

Infectious and epidemic diseases, dating back to as old as human history, have led to the deaths of people in different parts of the world in the historical process and have gained a quality that affects the socio-economic, military and cultural positions of societies. Infectious diseases seen in different periods of history, together with the negativities caused by trade, migration and especially war environments, spread to many parts of the world and caused epidemics. Due to its geographical location, the Anatolian geography has also been exposed to many infectious and epidemic diseases, especially the material and moral adversities experienced during the First World War and after, accelerated the spread of infectious and epidemic diseases before the establishment of the Republic and in the first years of the Republic. Since 1923, important steps have been taken in the fight against these diseases, and importance has been given to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, drug supply, quarantine and vaccination practices, disinfection processes, regulating environmental conditions and raising public awareness especially to protect against epidemics. In this study, common infectious and epidemic diseases such as malaria, trachoma, plague, scarlet fever, tuberculosis and smallpox, which were included in the Hilal-i Ahmer Journal in the first years of the Republic (1923-1928), were discussed and the struggles with these diseases were mentioned.
