The relationship between knowledge and faith in Jurjânî's work titled Sharh al-Mawaqif

In this study, it has been tried to reveal the understanding of the relationship between knowledge and faith in the work, Sharh al-Mawaqif, of al-Sayyid al-Sharif Jurjânî, who lived in the fifteenth/eighth century, as an important representative of Ash'ari theology school. Our study consists of an introduction and two chapters. In the introduction part, the subject, purpose, method and sources of the thesis are discussed. In the first chapter, the basic concepts of our study, the terms of knowledge and faith, are emphasized. First of all, among the theologians until Jurjânî, the views about the definition of knowledge and it's possibility, sources and parts were given, and Jurjânî's evaluations on them were recorded. Then, Jurjani's views on the definition and nature of faith are comparatively discussed with a historical perspective. In the second chapter, it is mentioned how Jurjânî established the knowledge-faith relationship. His general evaluations about the methods of inference and the methods he used more in the science of kalam are given. Through this methodological structure, it has been tried to show with examples how Jurjani explained the subjects of belief in Allah, the hereafter and the prophet. Depending on all these, it was concluded that he tried to build faith on a certain epistemology and methodology.
