Abstract (EN)
In this study, together with the in vivo evaluation of the effectiveness of polymer bur {Smartbur) compare to conventional bur in caries removal, it was also aimed to evaluate the patients perceptions on Smartbur, pain tolerances, local anaesthesia needs and compare these observations with the results obtained from the carbide burs which had operated in different (700 and 6000) rotational speeds. Besides, following the caries removal process with Smartbur, it was aimed to investigate the utilization of Diagnodent in detection of residual caries together with the caries detector dye. In the study, in vitro, it was intended to examine the residual dentine surface after caries removing by Smartbur comparatively with the characteristic of the dentine surface occured by the carbide burs operated in different (700 and 6000) rotational speeds. The amount of decrease in the number of microorganisms before and after the cavity preparation were evaluated for the Smartbur group and carbide bur group seperately. After the cavity preparation, clinical judgement for the caries removal was examined and determined by using a dental probe and the dentine in the baseline of the cavity was evaluated by Diagnodent and the highest score was recorded. Thereafter, caries detector dye was applied to the cavity and examined if the dye stained the cavity or not and the relation between staining and Diagnodent scores were investigated. In the in vitro part of the154 study, the morphologic characteristics formed by burs are examined by monitoring in SEM. As a result, Smartbvr was found as effective as conventional bur microbiologically in caries removal, it induces less pain comparing to the conventional technique routinly performed in clinic, accepted by the patients and generally necessitates no local anaesthesia Considering that during the caries removal process, Smartbur made an ultraconservative tissue preparation, it was beneficial to test the result with caries detector dye, due to the possible residual caries. In addition, both Smartbur and carbide bur forms similar morphological features on dentine surface.
