Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT Effects of 0.20 and 0.35 ppm concentrations of Azinphosmethyl, an organophosphated insecticide, on the protein levels in gill, kidney, brain and spleen tissues of the carp Cyprtnus carplo, were investigated over 1, 2, 3, 4, 15 and 30 days of exposure. The level of protein in the tissues studied decreased after exposure to 0.20 ppm concentration of the insecticide in the first days of exposure. At the 0.35 ppm concentration, tissue protein levels, with the exception of spleen, decreased at first days, fluctuated and reached to the control levels on prolonged exposures. A number of factors might cause the observed deacrease in the protein levels of the tissues which can be summarized as follows; - Interruptions in the feeding behaviour of the animate under the effect of pesticide, hence using proteins as energy resources. - Functional failure caused by the inhibition of enzymatic activity by the pesticide. - Disturbtion of protein synthesis in the tissues by causing histological deformations. On prolonged exposures fish might strive to level its protein level by adopting itself to tie new environmental condttions.
