Abstract (EN)
Background: Vitamin D is a steroid hormone with 27-carbon and main task is to regulate the intracellular and extracellular Ca and P regulation. It is shown that vitamin D deficiency can cause nonspecific muscle, bone, joint pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, depression and anxiety in all ages. Isokinetic contraction is a form of contraction that allowing muscle to work throughout the range of motion, with all its strength at an established fixed rate. Isokinetic contraction is used to evaluation of the muscle strength and improve muscle performance. In our study; we aimed to compare the effect of vitamin D and isokinetic exercise program on muscle strength, quality of life and depression. Methods: The sample of our study constitute 69 patients between 18-65 years old who applied Gaziantep University, Medicine Faculty, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in March-August 2015, and the 25 (OH) vitamin D levels has been detected under 30 ng / ml. 25 (OH) D levels, bilateral knee extensor and flexor muscle strength peak torque values, quality of life and depression levels of all patients were measured before vitamin D therapy and one month after treatment. Volunteers in the study were randomly divided into two groups. The first group consisting of 33 volunteers were given only vitamin D. The second group consisting of 36 volunteers were given vitamin D and isokinetic exercise program. Results: The results of this study showed that in both groups the increasing muscle strength, improvement quality of life and depression scores was statistically significant. When the two groups was compared to each other, it was observed clinically contribution in increase muscle strength peak torque, improvement of quality of life and depression scores when giving isokinetic exercise program in addition to vitamin D for vitamin d deficiency. However, this contribution was not statistically significant. As result, To contribute to the effectiveness of our work, it is required to have longer-term, comprehensive, blind and polymorphisms in major genes that control on vitamin D studies. Key words: Vitamin D, Isokinetic Exercise, Muscle Strength
