Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACTRisk assessment has been defined as ?a systematic method of the integrated analysis of risksinherent in a product, system or plant and their significance in an appropriate context?. Thetheoretical and practical methods used for the calculations and the general concept for the riskanalysis were presented in this research work. The failure modes and structural behaviors ofthe most important coastal structures were described. Furthermore, the basic theory of riskanalysis involved in Level 1 and Level 2 methods were described and the formulae of thearmour responses were given especially for the rubble mound breakwaters which are mostcommonly built around the world. The Karaburun fishery harbour breakwater on the Blacksea coast located in the northwest ofİstanbul was examined and a risk analysis implementation was carried out for different statesand required service life times by using Level 1, Level 2 methods and the BREAKWAT 3.0software. The results related to each method were presented graphically - showing the failureprobabilities against different design approaches - in terms of comparing with each other andthen interpreting. Keywords: Rubble Mound Breakwaters, Risk analysis, Risk assessment,Failure probability, Failure modexvi
