Roots of patriarchal social system are traced back almost to the dawn of humanity. In contemporary societies'social structures and relations it is possible to observe the influences of patriarchal social system. Furthermore, patriarchal social system constructs and controls many aspects of women and men; including where to stand, which professions to selectand how to behave in a social order via social gender norms and roles. Nowadays many cinema films and series produced concerning this issue. As a matter of fact, The Handmaid's Tale, released on 2017, is one of these series which is based on a dystopia regarding an advanced version of this patriarchal social structure. In this study, the Handmaid's Tale series, aiming to represent the potential level patriarchal social system may reach in the case that it is not obliterated, is discussed. Representation of women in the series is analyzed from the social point of view. For this purpose, social gender and feminist theories literature is reviewed; concepts regarding semiology, camera movements and techniques, color and scene decoration usages are considered. In the final part of the study, the representation of woman from social point of view is analyzed based on themes and selected scenes. As a conclusion to conducted analysis, it is concluded that the patriarchal social system determines both the woman's place in social order and the domestic setting.
