Abstract (EN)
The city of Baghdad, which has a vast essential in the history of Islamic civilization, was first established by the Abbasid caliph Ebû Ca'fer al-Mansûr (136-158/754-775) on the west bank of the Tigris River as the state center (145/762). The eastern side of Baghdad also get roling develop after he built the Rusâfah Palace in the east of the Tigris River and some of the Abbasid caliphs after him resided on this side. In the period until 279 (892), three large neighborhoods, Rusâfah, Shammâsiyah and Mukharrim, were established in East Baghdad. East Baghdad developed and grew within the borders of these three neighborhoods. The state center was moved to Samarra by Caliph al-Mu'tasim (218-227/833-842) in 221 (836) and moved back to Baghdad again by Caliph al-Mu'tadid-Billâh (279-289/892-902) in 279. Mu'tadid, who preferred the Haseni Palace as the palace of the caliphate, pioneered the emergence of another large new settlement called Dâr-al-Khilâfa in East Baghdad. Various buildings such as mosque, square, zoo and horse farm were built in Dâr-al-Khilâfa by him and his sons who became caliphs after him, al-Muktafi (289-295/902-908) and al-Muqtadir (295-320/908-932). Dâr-al-Khilâfa, which was built by al-Mu'tadid and his sons, continued to be the Palace of the Caliphate until the collapse of the state. In this study, the zoning activities carried out in East Baghdad, especially in Dâr-al-Khilâfa, in the period of just about 55 years from Baghdad becoming the center of Caliphate again in 279 until the Buwayhids took the Abbasids under their influence in 334.
