Analysis, critical edition and translation of Dâwud al-Qarsî's Sharh al-Waladiyyah al-Jadîdah

In this study, the work of Ottoman Turkish scholar Dâwud al-Qarsi, Sharh al-Waladiyyah al-Jadidah has been analyzed, critical edited and translated to Turkish. As will be understood from either the content or the name of the work, the contemporary of Qarsi, Saçaklızâde Mehmed Efendi's work al-Waladiyyah also examined comparatively with its relation with Qarsi's work. The science of disputation has been developed in the Ottoman Empire era intellectual circles through 17th and 18th centuries and most of the scholars have written commentaries and glosses on this science intensively. As a member of this intensive activities, Qârsi has referenced in this work to the prominent figures and works in the science of disputation literature, so that he has displayed his mastery for the works of the popular scholars of this science. When looked at the science of disputation literature of 17th and 18th century in Islamic World, it is observed that the Ottoman Turkish scholars' works on this science are significantly more in quality and quantity than South Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, Iran and South East Asia. One of the most effective things to understand the reasons behind this fact is conducting the content analysis of this literature. For this reason, studying the Qarsi's work, as he is a significant member of the aforementioned intensive activities, will provide illuminating information on the history of the development of the science of disputation.
