Abstract (EN)

This thesis in which the Aristotelian definition of happiness is studied, tries to determine the definition of happiness based on the concepts of activity, of soul and of virtue. Happiness is an activity. Happiness is an activity of soul but this activity must conform to virtue. Happiness is not the potential (power) of body conforming to automatic activities. Happiness is the activity of soul in accordance with virtue. The potential (power) to exercise an activity is not enough to be happy. Similarly, happiness is the activity of soul, it is not the activity of body because happiness is linked to vitality, it is not the happiness of a wood that is unanimated. Finally happiness refers to the activity of soul in accordance with virtue; it is not related with the automatic activities tied to our habits. In this context, the components of happiness, the activity, the soul and the virtue are closely related to each other. It is difficult to understand the soul without the activity, in the same context, virtue without soul. Key words : happiness, activity, soul, virtue, power, body, habit, Aristotle.
