Examination of Yusufname cartoon in terms of values education

Cartoons have an important place in children's lives. In addition to educating while entertaining, they are also effective in value transfer. In values education, cartoons play an important role in the process that starts in the family and continues with school. Cartoons contribute to this while shaping children's imagination. Considering this role, cartoons with useful content have positive results for children, while cartoons with harmful content have the opposite effect. Children identify with the cartoon heroes they watch and take them as examples. For this reason, the cartoons that children watch should be selected very carefully and presented under the control of families. Considering the contribution of cartoons to the transfer of values, the importance of locally produced cartoons emerges. Societies that want to adopt and transfer values to children should be careful about the programs they show to their children. Especially imported foreign cartoons are insufficient in terms of reflecting our social values. For this reason, it would be beneficial to increase the number of domestic productions. Based on this idea, this study is a qualitative research and content analysis was used in the research. Thirteen episodes of the Yusufname cartoon broadcast on TRT Children's channel were analyzed. As a result of the research, a total of 203 positive values were identified in the analyzed chapters, while 89 examples of negative words or behaviors were found. The three most repeated values were helpfulness, responsibility and self-control; the three least repeated values were honesty, justice and patriotism. The three most repeated negative behaviors were scolding, being angry and cheating-deception; the three least repeated negative behaviors were arrogance, stinginess and arguing. Although examples of negative words and behaviors were encountered in the 13 episodes of Yusufname cartoon, it was observed that the cartoon had a positive structure in general.
