The study of folk poet style Turkish poetry tradition in the context of value education

Value is a reference resulting from the one's effort to understand oneself and environment. The consistency and the preeminence of the individual's perception form "self". Value education is the process of gaining inner responsibility consciousness of the individual while giving meaning to life. Today, it is seen that, although fast developing technology conduces to positive improvements, it also reveals undesirable results. Both the individual and consequently the society, show presence with their social, cultural, economic, and artistic dimensions. The mentality paradigms of societies are shaped in accordance with their own dynamics. As a result of globalization, it has become difficult to remain authentic in personal and social areas. In this respect, it is inevitable to head for Turkish Folk Science resources which are rich in values. In this study, the works of folk poets that are used to create and to pass on the values presented in the folk poet style Turkish poetry tradition have been pointed out. During the literature review it has been seen that it is appropriate to make analysis of value education and folk poet style Turkish poetry tradition on the grounds of value education. The related works of folk poets coming from this tradition such as Karacaoğlan, Sümmani and Dadaloğlu, have been studied in the context of value education. In the works of the folk poets, values like sentimentality, love, respect, responsibility, and patriotism are observed. For the creation, passing on, and survival of the values folk poets play an important role. The messages of the folk poets works decorated with values have significant importance in keeping national ego, maintaining unity and solidarity and raising individuals with high awareness. At this point, it can be clearly seen that value education and folk poet style Turkish poetry tradition correspond interdisciplinary educational gains. Within the study, the strong texture of folk poet tradition is emphasized for both the creation and passing on values and constructing social sensitivity consciousness and national culture. It is aimed to contribute to the world of education and culture by emphasizing the contribution of masters of folk poetry tradition to the value education with their instruments and verses.
