Effect of smoking habits on nutritional status and quality of life among adult women who regularly receive health education in a changing world

Smoking is known to havemanydamages to health. However, the increase in smoking is worrying. In today'sworld, especially women and early age groupturn to smokingmakes the researchworthdoing. In this study, the effects of smoking on nutrition and quality of life areinvestigated. The study was carriedout in 120 women whoreceived service from the institution in October and November 2018 from a family counselingtrainingcenter in Tuzla district of Istanbul. Data collection form, socio-demographicfeatures, quality of life scale (SF-36), food consumption frequencyquestionnaire (AFFQ) were applied to the women participating in the study. According to the results, the relationshipbetween the nutritionpatterns and quality of life of individuals was evaluated. As a result of our study; There was norelationbetween the ages of 18-45 in terms of age, body massindex, weightgain and givingstatus in the lasttwoyears, educationlevel, smokingstatus in tooth-inducedwoundformation. According to the statisticalresults, a significantrelationship was foundbetweencigarette consumption time and dailycigarette consumption amount. In particular, it was suggested that smoking in a family facilitatessmoking. In our study; it was found that smokingcausedchanges in nutrition and the effect on quality of life did not make a significantdifferenceexceptfor the lastoneyear. There was nosignificantdifference in the variablesrelated to milkyoghurt consumption, vegetable consumption, consumption of bread, consumption of meatoffal, consumption of fatsugar, consumption of fruits, consumption of driedfruits, consumption of beverages, consumption of nuts. Whilealcohol consumption increased with the use of cigarettes in the study, the intake of beveragessuch as tea and coffee was not significant. The consumption of excesssaltedfood was found to be significant in smokers. When the results were examined, it was found that the nutritionhabits and quality of life of women due to smoking were similar and differentaspects from othersources. It is thought that conducting more detailedstudies in the futurewillcontribute to the subject of ourresearch.
