Abstract (EN)
This investigation is concerned with studies performed to assass the effects of 50 Hz magnetic fields of 10 G, 20 G and 30 G on hydroxyproline concentrations of guinea pig's skin. Sixty three, male, 250-300 g weighted guinea pigs were used in the study. Magnetic fields were generated by a pair of Helmholtz coils which are specially designed and constructed in our laboratory. Guinea pigs were exposed to the fields of 10 G, 20 G and 30 G, inside in the systems with period of 4 hours/day and 8 hours/day for 5 days in 6 different groups.Nine animals were served as control, keeping at the same conditions without being exposed to any magnetic fields. At the end of the exposure period, skin hydroxyproline concentrations of exposed and unexposed guinea pigs were determined by Woessner's method. Hydroxyproline concentrations of guinea pigs exposed to the 10 G magnetic field were found decreased for both of the exposure periods.Magnetic field of 20 G, being more effective in 4 hours of exposure periods, increased the skin hydroxyproline amounts of exposed animals for both of the exposure periods.Magnetic field of 30 G inrcased the hydroxyproline concentrations of exposed guinea pigs but it is found more effective in the exposure period of 8 hours than 4 hours of exposure period. Electrical fields and current densities induced in the guinea pigs by the applied magnetic fields were also found and human : guinea pig SF was calculated to obtain the human equivalance of the magnetic fields used in this study by using spherical and ellipsoidal approaches for guinea pigs and human.Scaling factor of 4.6 was calculated. Magnetic fields that will induce the same amount of current densities and electrical fields in the human body were obtained from this calculated scaling factor and with the values between 2. 17 G - 6.52 G.
