Abstract (EN)

The globalization of the economy and the liberalization of the trade markets have formulated new conditions in the market place which are characterized by instability and intensive competition in the business environment. Competition is continuously increasing with respect to price, quality and selection, service and promptness of delivery. Removal of barriers, international cooperation, technological innovations cause competition to intensify. All these changes impose the need for organizational transformation, where the entire processes, organization climate and organization structure are changed.Reengineering is the fundamental rethinking and radical redesign of business processes to achieve dramatic improvements in critical contemporary measures of performance such as cost, quality, service and speed.Benchmarking is the initial step undertaken by firms that are involved in business process reengineering efforts. It is a process that determines industry best practices and can be utilized as a guide for improving an organization?s practices. Primarily, benchmarking techniques identify efficient and productive business processes that can be used as a target for improvement of inefficient processes.The purpose of this study is to point out the importance of benchmarking tecnique in reengineering aplications and to explore the approaches of the managers in the construction sector.The first section of the research analyzes the ?change? and the ?reengineering? concepts while analyzing the concept of benchmarking and displaying its relation with the reengineering in the second section. In the last section the managers? attitudes and point of views regarding the two management tecniques are examined.According to the results of the research; reengineering and benchmarking are proved to be inseparable, it is seen that the managers in the construction sector are well informed of the two tecniques and they are likely to support the aplication of the tecniques in their businesses.
