Abstract (EN)

In order to obtain the performance curves of vertical axis wind turbines, serial and parallel connected 1-dimensional systems are modeled in MATLAB software using DMST method. Experimentally studied symmetrical airfoil profiles in the literature were determined and a database was created in which these characteristics could be integrated into the model being developed. In the database of the model, these airfoil profiles have experimentally obtained lift and drag coefficients at certain values of Reynolds number. Test and calibration processes have been performed with turbnies which have many experimental data in the literature and using airfoil profiles in the database. After verification, the effect of fixed pitching on the turbine's performance was studied to examine the effect of passive flow control. Subsequently, in order to see the effect of dynamic control and to carry out the main objective of this thesis, dynamic control of the pitching angles was provided and the effect of the results on performance was investigated. Following the results obtained with the basic airfoil profiles, the ones having the experimental and high performance airfoil profiles were determined and their characteristics were integrated into the database. The dynamic control of the turbines which have experimental data was carried out after testing and calibration processes and it was evaluated whether there are generally acceptable inferences. An interface is designed for the model. Users will be able to quickly gain insight torque and power generated by the turbine after entering the desired parameters. Turbines parameters selection processes were become easier before the CFD analysis lasted for many hours with the help of this model. In addition, it is provided to integrate the airfoil profile characteristics created in the experimental data set into the database easily.
