Education in Gümüşhane during the Democrat Party period (1950-1960)

During the transition to the multi-party system, there have been important developments that deeply affected the political history of Turkey. The Single Party administration continued until 1946, with the establishment of the DP in the same year, general elections were held and the CHP maintained its presence in power by winning the elections. Demanding the votes of the people with the discourse of democracy, the DP came to power in 1950 with the high votes it received from the broad masses of the people. This change in political life has brought along the process of change in many levels of the country. Undoubtedly, one of the factors affected by this change process has been the education life. In the DP Period, the education system was evaluated with its basic lines, and a new political process in education was started. In this study, the reflections of the education policies and practices of the DP Period on the province of GümüĢhane were discussed, and the educational life of GümüĢhane in the DP Period and the Single Party Period was evaluated together. In the first years of the Republic, an education campaign was started in the whole dormitory and studies were carried out in line with the needs of the society. The main subject of our study is what stages have been reached in the educational life of our country with the coming to power of the DP and what kind of changes have been experienced especially in GümüĢhane. The aim of the research will be to examine the educational policies that the DP addressed and implemented in the party and government program, and to determine the changes in the educational activities in GümüĢhane between the years 1950-1960 and the political reflections of the period.
