Perception of women in the era of the Democratic Party (1950-1960)

Turkey took its place in the new world order established after the World War II. In this period, Turkey developed close relations with the United States of America, the dominant power of the new world order, and also enabled the American lifestyle to be introduced into the country. This initiated the political, economic, social and cultural change and transformation after 1945. The biggest change in the political area was the transition of power from the 27-year-old Republican People's Party to the Democratic Party. The woman was one of the elements affected by the change and transformation in every part of life in the process. In this study, the perception of women in the era of the Democratic Party between 1950 and 1960 was examined. The position of women in politics was compared with that in the previous period and the attitude of the politicians of the era to women was revealed. The problems faced by women in working life as well as in the politics were emphasized. The impact of the American lifestyle on society and women was addressed. In addition, the approach of the society to women in the areas such as education and law in everyday life was investigated. In the world of the 1950s, the approach to women and the place where the women position themselves in the society would be an important step for the women's movement to be started by the future generations.
