Van during the Democratic Party era

In this study, which was prepared as a master's thesis, the general photograph of Van during the Democratic Party period was tried to be taken. In the first part of the study, which consists of four parts, the organization and political activities of CHP and DP in Van with the transition period to multi-party life are discussed. In particular, based on archival documents, information about the people working in the organizations of both In the second part of the study, the political life of Van during the DP government was examined. In this context, Van's political tendencies and preferences were revealed based on the 1950, 1954 and 1957 general election results. In addition, in this section, Van's local politics were tried to be made visible by giving place to the mukhtar and municipal elections in Van. Parties and the social, cultural and economic status of the aforementioned people is given. In addition, in this section, the activities and performances of the Van deputies in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey were also mentioned, based on the Minutes of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. The third part of the thesis focuses on the social and cultural life in Van. In this context, the population movements and demographic structure in Van; education and cultural life, Van Community Center and its activities; media, cinema, health institutions and their studies were included. In the fourth and last part of the thesis, the economic life, public works and zoning works in Van during the DP government are discussed. In this context, information about investments and developments in agriculture, animal husbandry, mining, industrialization and trade in Van was given. In the final analysis, this study, which was written with reference to primary sources such as archival documents of the period, local and national newspapers, statistics and reports, was also supported by copyrighted works about Van. This study, which reveals the political, social, cultural, economic and public works situation of Van under the DP rule, is also important in terms of showing that the state-society relations, which were strained during the single-party period, softened again.
