Comparison of the efficiency of different irrigation activation methods on teeth with experimental internal root resorption and contaminated with enterococcus faecalis

Abstract (EN)
It is recommended to use different irrigation activation methods in order to increase the effectiveness of root canal disinfection in teeth with internal root resorption. In this study, antimicrobial efficacy of different irrigation activation techniques in roots contaminated with Enterococcus Faecalis (E. Faecalis) will be investigated. 109 single root upper anterior teeth were included in the study. The roots were divided into two, standard artificial internal resorption cavities were created on their inner surfaces and all samples were sterilized. Then it was contaminated with E. Faecalis for 21 days. Root canals were prepared up to 50.06 in size using the ProTaperNext rotary instrument system. Later, the samples were divided into 7 experimental groups (n = 15): Standard needle irrigation, EDDY, Endoactivator, PUI, XP-EndoFinisher, PIPS, SWEEPS. All irrigation activation methods tested were applied in 3 cycles of 30 seconds using a total of 6 ml of 2.5% NaOCl. After irrigation activation procedures, roots were examined with CLSM and the percentages of dead bacteria in dentinal tubules were calculated. None of the irrigation activation methods tested in the results of the present study provided 100% bacterial elimination. There was no significant difference between the irrigation methods tested in terms of the percentage of dead bacteria in the dentinal tubules (p> 0.05). In methods other than PIPS, there was no significant difference in the percentage of dead bacteria between coronal, inner root resorption and middle and apical regions of the roots (p> 0.05). In the PIPS group, a higher percentage of dead bacteria was detected in the middle region compared to the apical region (p <0.05).
