The effects of fig (Ficus carica) seed oil on the experimentalmyoglobinuric acute renal failure model

Objective: In our study, we aimed to investigate the effects of fig (Ficus carica) seed oil obtained by crushing dried fig seeds by cold press method on experimental myoglobinuric acute renal failure model. Material and Methods: For the experiment, 32 Wistar Albino male rats were randomly divided into 4 groups of 8 and renal damage was created by intramuscular injection of 50% hypertonic glycerol (8 ml/kg) equally into both hind legs of rats. The subjects were left without water for the last 24 hours. Intramuscular saline was administered to the sham group and distilled water was given orally after 1, 24 and 48 hours. (MABY) group was given glycerol and 3 ml/kg of distilled water orally after 1, 24 and 48 hours. Glycerol and Ficus carica seed oil at a dose of 3 ml/kg and 6 ml/kg were administered orally after 1, 24 and 48 hours to the MABY + FC3 and MABY + FC6 groups. Free diet and water intake of the animals were provided after the first glycerol injection. At the 72nd hour, blood and tissue samples were taken and the animals were sacrificed. Results: Increased urea and creatinine values in the MABY group were found to be low in the MABY + FC3 and MABY + FC6 groups, without a significant difference between the two treatment groups. There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of tissue and serum MDA and MPO levels. There was a significant increase in tissue GSH level in both treatment groups regardless of the dose (P≤0.01). Serum GSH level increased significantly only in the MABY + FC6 group (P≤0.05). In the microscopic sections of the kidney tissue, the rate of necrosis was found to be significantly reduced in both treatment groups, regardless of dose. There was a significant decrease in caste ratio only in the MABY + FC6 group. Conclusion: In this study; fig seed oil has been shown to improve overall renal function markers, cellular morphology and increase in antioxidant capacity in myoglobinuric acute renal failure model.
