TEZ KONUSU: HISTOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF BONE HEALINGREGENERATION USING PRP(PLATELET RICH PLASMA) IN DIABETICRABBITSÖĞRENC N N ADI: Dt.Ceyda KOCABAY ÖZKAYNAKTEZ DANIŞMANININ ADI SOYADI: Prof. Dr. hsan Levent ARALANAB L M DALI: Ağız Diş Çene Hastalıkları ve Cerrahisi A.D.YILI: 2007STATÜSÜ: DOKTORASUMMARYThe aim of this study was to evaluate the correlationbetween the spontaneous healing levels of critical size (15 mm) defectsprepared on skulls of healthy and experimentally Diabetes Mellitus(DM)induced rabbits. 24 mature male New Zelland rabbits were included in thestudy, and the effects of autologous bone and graft material- Platelet RichPlasma (PRP) mixture was compared histopathologically.The rabbits used in this study were gathered in 3 groups of 8rabbits in each group. These groups were as listed below:1. group- diabetic ( 1.st defect control -not filled, 2.nd defectautologous bone graft+ PRP)2. group- diabetic ( 1.st defect control, 2.nd defect Bio-Gen grafts+PRP)3. group- healthy ( 1.st defect control, 2.nd defect autologous bonegraft+PRP)4 animals from each group were sacrified on the 6th and 12th weeks of thestudy, and the specimen obtained were evaluated histopathologically.The histopathological examinations revealed that on the 6thand 12th weeks, there was no significant difference in bone healing levelsof the defects prepared on skulls of experimentally DM induced rabits andhealthy rabbits and left to heal spontaneously afterwards. In both groups,the bone healing process in defects filled with autologous bone-PRPmixture was more successfull compared to the defects left empty forspontaneous healing.On the other hand, the comparison of healing process indefects filled with Bio-Gen-prp mixture and the ones that spontaneouslyhealed revealed no significant difference on the 6th week, but on the 12thweek, the bone healing at the site filled with Bio-Gen-prp mixture wasbetter.These results show that the autologous bone grafts, which are agreed to bethe golden standart for grafts, have many advantages in bone healing andreconstruction processes, and therefore, should be considered as the firsttreatment option . But due to the increase in morbidity and the possibilityof complications, biogen+prp mixture may also be considered as analternative for spontaneous bone healing
