Abstract (EN)
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is an endocrine system disease that causes serious damage to the body. Vascular complications caused by DM may effect wound healing. Pentoxifylline is used as a peripheral vasodilator drug to eliminate damage to organs as a result of vascular complications caused by diabetes. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of diabetes on oral mucosa and the effect of pentoxifylline on oral mucosa. In our study, 36 Sprague Dawley rats were used. Diabetes induction was achieved by administering 55 mg / kg Streptozotocin intraperitoneally to 24 of the subjects. After waiting for 7 days, surgical operation was started and a 3mm diameter wound was created in the left cheek mucosa of the experimental animals with disposable biopsy punch instruments. Wound healing was evaluated on days 3 and 10. Histopathological examinations revealed necrosis, inflammation, fibrosis and wound opening parameters. Diabetes + Pentoxifylline (DP) group compared to the control group, a statistically significant difference was found in terms of severity of inflammation on the 10th day (p <0.05). In the DP group, moderate and severe inflammation rates on day 3 were found to be statistically higher than day 10 (p <0.05). In the wound opening evaluations, the diabetic group had a higher wound opening on the 10th day than the other groups (<0.05).
