The effect of Taurine nutrition and exercise on asprosine levels in rats with experimental type 2 diabetes

Abstract (EN)

Objective; Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a disease of increasing importance due to its frequency and complications. In recent years, numerous studies have emerged identifying the beneficial effects of taurine supplementation on reducing the onset of diabetes and its associated complications. Taurine has been shown to stimulate energy expenditure by reducing oxidative stress and adipose tissue inflammation, thereby having protective and therapeutic effects for metabolic diseases, which has stimulated research into its potential therapeutic uses. The new discovery of asprosine, one of the adipokines secreted by adipose tissue, plays a role in many physiological processes of the body such as nutrition, appetite, energy balance, insulin and glucose metabolism, lipid metabolism, blood pressure regulation, coagulation, inflammation. Asprosin is promising for both new pharmacological treatment strategies and diagnostic methods. In this study, we aimed to evaluate asprosine levels in taurine and exercise-treated Type 2 diabetic rats. In our study, we investigated the relationship between asprosine levels between groups as well as the relationship between other biochemical parameters. Material and Methods; Before starting the study, the rats were randomly divided into 4 groups according to the procedures to be performed.Taurine-Fed Sedentary Diabetes Group 1.5 g/kg/day taurine was added to the drinking water for 4 weeks. They were fed with normal water and feed. Nothing additional was given for 4 weeks. They were fed with normal water and feed. 30 min/day chronic running exercises were performed.Taurine-Fed Exercise Diabetes Group 1.5 g/kg/day taurine was added to the drinking water for 4 weeks. They were fed with normal water and feed. Exercise protocol was applied. 30 min/day chronic running exercises were performed. Control Group Nothing additional was given for 4 weeks. They were fed with normal water and feed. Asprosin concentrations were measured by ELISA method. SPSS 26.0 program was used for all statistical analyses. Results; In our study, asprosin level of the control group was significantly higher than the other groups (p<0.05). HDL, LDL, total cholesterol, AST, ALT and weight of rats fed with taurine and exercised significantly decreased compared to the control group (p<0.05). In our study, no significant correlation was found between asprosine levels and AST, ALT, HDL, LDL, Total Cholesterol, Glucose, TAS levels and weights (p>0.05). A significant, negative correlation was observed between asprosine levels and triglyceride levels (p<0.05). Conclusion; In our study, a decrease inasprosin levels was found in Type 2 diabetic rats using taurine and exercising. Taurine may protect against diabetes and prevent diabetes with its reducing effects onasprosin and other biochemical parameters.
