Abstract (EN)

The Effect of Rutin (Vitamin P) on Alveolar Bone Resorption and Various Biomarker Levels in Rats with Experimental Periodontitis Aim: The evaluation of the effect of rutin which shows antioxidant and antiinflammatory characteristics on experimental periodontitis. Material and Method: 32 Wistar Albino male rats were divided into 4 equal groups; 1) HC, 2) EP), 3) R-50, 4) R-100. After experimental periodontitis was created by ligating 4-0 silk sutures to the maxillary second molar teeth, rutin was given by oral gavage for 14 days. By ELISA method in gingival tissue; IL-1β, IL-10, MDA, SOD, GPX, Spectrophotometrically; TOS, TAS, OSI values were analyzed. ABL in maxillary specimens was examined by Micro-CT. Results: No significant difference was observed in IL-1β and MDA values (p>0.05). IL-1β/IL-10 ratio was found to be significantly higher in the EP group compared to the R-100 group (p<0.05). SOD level was higher in HC and R-100 groups than in EP group (p<0.001). IL-10 and GPX levels were found significantly higher in the R-100 group compared to the EP group (p<0.05). TOS values were found to be significantly higher in the EP group compared to the HC group (p<0.05). TAS values were found to be significantly higher in the HC group than in the R-50 group (p<0.05). OSI value was found to be significantly higher in the EP group compared to the other group (p<0.001). ABL values were found significantly higher in the EP group than in the HC group and in the R-100 group compared to the HC group (p<0.001). There was no statistically significant difference between the R-50 group and HC (p>0.05). Conclusions: It was concluded that rutin use in experimental periodontitis model can prevent alveolar bone destruction and improve inflammatory/oxidative parameters in a dose-dependent manner. It was concluded that more research is needed to see the doserelated effects of rutin. Keywords: Alveolar bone loss, glutathione peroxidase, interleukins, malondialdehyde, rutin, superoxide dismutase
