Abstract (EN)
After 11th of September, 2001 terorist attacks in USA, all countries of theWorld realized the real dimension of terrorist threat and it was only possible to fightwith terror with global measures. This resulted with many security measuresestablished with international participation.Turkey had the chance to make himself clear about terror problem after thisincident although nobody reacted to this problem for many years in the past.After the risk analysis conducted about terrorism, it is understood thatmaritime transportation was vulnerable to terrorist attacks. With many new measurestaken internationally, maritime transportation has been safer and the chance ofcontinuity after an attack increased.In behalf of our country, it is apparent that financial results of a terrorist attcakwould be very harmful for our country, and financial loss could be a lot more than thecost of security measures that should have been taken.The position of Turkey is very near the world energy lines, and Turkish straitsand Aegean sea is very important for World?s maritime transportation. Thisemphasises the danger that could be caused by terorist attcaks or maritime incidents.Establishing GTH at Turkish straits, facilitation of identification at sea by AIS,and ensuring ISPS Code standars to our ships and harbours resulted with worldstandard maritime security in our Country.Among all this progress, problems between Turkey and Greece includingterritorial waters and airspace problem, Search and Rescue zones, geographicalformations are stil very important for our maritime concerns. The safety defect thatwill be caused by abusement of these subcejts by terrorist groups could be veryharmful for the economy of our country and neighbours. Turkey and Greece shouldtake necessary actions together to ensure maritime safety at Aegean Sea as soon aspossible.In addition, production and service of maritime safety equipment by Turkishcompanies, and education programmes about these equipments that could beconducted by Turkish Universities may produce great financial advantages to oureconomy.Key words : 1.
