The stand of the marine culture in transformation of Antalya's urban culture and its identity

With components such as belonging, locality, urban identity, the structure of urban culture in Antalya, which comprises social interaction, cohabitation, life practices, symbols and memory related to time and space, continuously goes through a transformation in a sense of history and within the framework of social diversity. The social structure as well as modes of production and land ownership that integrate into the settlement and habitus is means of bringing about socio-economic structure in various reflections.The marine culture, which is the focal point of the research, is produced in the circle of human life, in the context of attaching a meaning for the society and individuals living in Antalya to the sea as a problem of environmental/ecological identity, the transmission of it through material objects, sea knowledge, and the creation of social, economic and administrative values. The position of the marine culture in the face of Antalya?s urban culture and identity, which possesses some parts of nomadic way of life, tourism, maritime, fishery etc. that are able to create their own cultural circles with the elements internal and external immigration in Antalya, is needed to be explained by these points of view.In the comprehension of this work, the socio-cultural diversity, the social interaction, socio-cultural situation, the current situation of marine culture that is possessed of Antalya with regard to historical perspective are put forward in relation to urban culture and transformation of identity through face-to-face interviews.
