Abstract (EN)

Denizli province has a great potential for the Aegean region in terms of the goat breeding. This study was carried out to determine morphological properties of native Hair goats raised also in Denizli province based on the live weights, body and head measurements. Animal material of the study consisted of a total of 475 Hair goats raised in 10 flocks from Babadağ, Çal, Honaz and Pamukkale districts in Denizli province. The least square means for live weight, withers height, back height, rump height, body length, chest depth, chest width, chest girth, head length, ear length, and forehead width in general were found as 62.75 kg, 83.06, 77.75, 79.93, 75.60, 35.27, 19.72, 91.82, 17.51, 15.74 an 13.47 cm, respectively. In addition, the color definition table is formed according to farmer's nomenclature for identifying the coat color patterns in Hair goats. Important information revealed about the morphological properties such as live weight, body and head measurements for Hair goat raised in farmers' condition in Denizli province. In conclusion, information obtained from the present study will provide an important contribution to literature and breeding programs on Hair goats.
