In vitro evaluation of the effect of different denture cleaning solutions on the retention of the dental implant prosthetic superstructure attachment

Abstract (EN)

Implant-supported complete dentures are a treatment option that can be applied in the prosthetic treatments of complete edentulous individuals and that can provide a better level of retention and stabilization compared to traditional complete dentures. Retention in implant-supported complete dentures can be provided with different attachment systems. Cleaning methods should be explained to patients regardless of the chosen retainer system. This study aims to examine the retention values by applying 548 insertion-removal cycle after the locator and novaloc holder systems are kept in different prosthesis cleaning solutions, equivalent to 6 months. Attachment parts are nylon in the locator system and PEEK in the novaloc system. Attachments in both groups are divided into three groups according to their holding capacity as light, medium, and high. In each of the 5 different denture cleaner groups, a total of 120 nylon, including 8 from each attachment group, and 120 PEEK were included in the study. Female and male parts were embedded into acrylic resin blocks and pulled with a force of 50 N / sec in the Instron Universal Test device, and fatigue test was applied. Retentive forces were measured. At the end of the experiment, SEM images were taken. According to the results of our study, a statistically significant decrease in retention strength was detected in samples kept in NaOCl, PTF, AKT, CRG solutions, and the change in retention strength in samples kept in distilled water was not found to be statistically significant. The retention strength values were lower in NaOCl solution, and a statistically significant relationship was found between L-transparent and N-green in terms of retention change. As a result of our study, denture cleaning solutions contribute to the reduction of retention forces seen in attachments over time. We hope that our study will shed light on future studies and will be developed with studies that can imitate the oral environment and examine fatigue in materials with dynamic movements.
