Numerical investigation of fatigue behavior of dental implant applications

Abstract (EN)

Dental implant applications are commonly-seen threating method in dentistry. The subjected force to the implant is the main factor that affects the success of threat. The shape of the used-implant affects both the implant stabilization and the bone loss. In this study, the effect of implant shape on fatigue behavior was investigated by using finite element methodology. Ti6Al4V was used as the material, and totally 31 implant models including a reference model were generated. While generating the models, the height of the thread bottom , the height of the thread width, height of the thread, thread?s pitch, height of the implant, diameter of the implant, length of the chamfer, radius of the chamfer varied in the simulations. The models were created by use of SOLIDWORKS base on ISO 14801 criteria and then fatigue analyses were applied to those models by ANSYS software. As a result, the implant diameter and the implant height were considered to be the most important factors that affect fatigue behavior of the dental implants. The most effective parameters on the life of the implant were found to be the height of the screw and teeth, and the least effective parameters were thread bottom height and thread width height.
