Özet (EN)

Earthquake is the most destructive natural disaster which leads maximum life and economical loss. Many buildings experiences serious damages even they collapses. Structural safety is the most popular research subject for researchers in the World. The safety target was to save structur al system after destructive earthquake. However the safety target is to keep structural functions after earthquake now. In order to reach to this target, it is necessary to develop new structural systems and technologies. According to this concept, seismic isolation systems are the most common system that has increasing number of application all over the world. The aim of this thesis is to study design and application of seismic isolation systems from architectural point of view. Basic information about these systems is given at the beginning then international codes and applications are introduced. Following chapters of the thesis are about 11 applications of seismic isolation system applications in Turkey. According to our investigations, the target performance level of these systems is clarified then these applications are analyzed according to cost, duration and design point of view. Architectural design details such as stairs, elevators, façade, surroundings of the structure, mechanical and electrical connections are evaluated according to seismic isolation concept.
