Abstract (EN)
Natural disasters are events that occur continuously within a long-term cycle. These disasters result from atmospheric, geological, and hydrological processes and are commonly observed worldwide. As a consequence of natural disasters, there can be loss of life and property. Some natural disasters can be prevented, while others can lead to unavoidable destruction. Earthquakes, in particular, pose one of the greatest threats among these disasters. In the aftermath of earthquakes, survivors may face homelessness due to damaged or collapsed housing. Designs developed to address the housing needs in disaster areas prioritize resilience and functionality. This study examines a proposed modular housing design intended for use in post-earthquake disaster areas. The aim of the study is to examine natural disasters, especially earthquakes and the problems they cause, and to provide an appropriate modular housing design to meet the temporary shelter needs in post-earthquake disaster areas. Additionally, the economic and sociological problems caused by earthquakes, the impact of earthquakes on structures and destruction issues, post-earthquake housing crises, and health needs are addressed. Temporary housing solutions implemented worldwide and examples of housing used for temporary shelter are also reviewed. At the end of the study, a proposal for earthquake-resistant and practical modular housing design is presented, aiming to provide an effective solution for post-earthquake shelter. The scope of the study includes not only the design of modular housing for use in post-earthquake disaster areas but also logistical and location problems of temporary housing containers used in earthquake zones, post-earthquake infrastructure problems, sanitary issues, housing crises, economic, and sociological problems. The methodology of the study involves literature research, analysis of written and visual documents, interviews, and modeling work. These methods were utilized to develop designs suitable for post-earthquake use. The modular housing design for use in post-earthquake disaster areas combines literature research and document analysis on logistical and location problems of temporary containers used in earthquake zones in our country, with appropriate modeling work to provide an example for design. This study consists of four sections. The first section discusses the concept of earthquakes, their relationship with architecture, and the problems they cause. The second section examines the process of temporary shelter after earthquakes, the use of mass tent systems, and container homes. Examples of applied or in-design modular housing are also discussed. The third section presents a proposed modular housing design for post-earthquake use. The final section includes conclusions and recommendations of this study.
