The levels of the ghrelin, growth hormone, triglicerid, cholesterol and subtypes in the depressive disorder and subtypes research the relationship with the clinical variabilite

Recently, the studies regarding ghrelin to examine the pathophysiology of various psychiatric disorders have been focused. It is unknown the importance of the lipid profils and ghrelin in the depressive disorder (DD). In the present study, the values of serum ghrelin, triglyceride, cholesterol, and subtypes and its relationships with clinical variables in DD subtypes were evaluated.The study comprised 50 depressive disordered patients who had applied to Firat University Firat Medical Center Department of Psychiatry as out- or in- patients and had been diagnosed with panic disorder according to the criteria of DSM-IV and 12 healthy controls. The patients were administered the sociodemographical data form, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale and SCID. In the patients and controls who were met the study criteria, serum ghrelin, growth hormone, triglyceride, cholesterole, and subtypes levels were obtained.There were significant differences between VLDL, LDL, TG, total cholesterol and ghrelin levels in the DD with compared to controls but not for HDL levels. These significant differences continued in the subtypes of the DD with major depressive disorder, distimic disorder and depressive disorder not otherwise specified (NOS).There may be a pathophysiological association between ghrelin and total lipid profiles in DD patients.These relationships are more clear in the distimic disorder and these are correlated with the chronicity of the disorder. In addition to them it is seen important the check of lipid profilles emphasized cerebrovasculer and cardiovasculer risks when we followed the depressive patients as psychologically .
