Validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the depression literacy questionnaire

Background: The aim of present study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Turkish form of "Depression Literacy Scale". Methods: Participants are 235 patient relatives who applied to the Celal Bayar University Hospital.The study included individuals over 18 years of age and who do not have any illness that affects judgment.The Depression Literacy Scale was used in the study.In the reliability analysis of the study, the internal consistency coefficient and item-total score correlation analysis were examined.Explanatory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were investigated in the validity analysis of the study. Results:The average age of the participants was 37.13 ± 11.16 and 54% were male.The mean score of D-lit scale was12.48 ± 4.73.The internal consistency of the D-lit was 0.80 and, item-total correlation coefficients were between 0.14-0.48 (p <0.0001).For the exploratory factor analysis of sample adequacy of D-lit Kaiser-Meğer-Olkin (KMO) coefficients 0.754 and Bartlett coefficient1042,123 (p=0.000)was found.Single factor solution was obtainedrepresenting 57,34 % of the total variance. In the confirmatory factor analysis, chi-square / df = 2,460 and RMSEA = 0,079 were obtained with the desired value. Conclusion: Results demonstrated that the Turkish version of D-lit is a valid and reliable. Keywords: Turkish form of Depression Literacy Scale, reliability, validity
