Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to determine how the visits to nursing homes affect the social development of the students at the secondary school level, how they perceive the world of the elderly and how it affects the intergenerational communication. The research was carried out as a semi-structured field study according to the descriptive analysis of the qualitative research. The sample group was selected from volunteer students at the age of 12-13, consisting of 20 people from the Manavgat 15 Temmuz Şehitler İmam Hatip Ortaokulu. Observation form and interview records were used as data collection tool. The application was accomplished by observing the visits of the Municipality of Manavgat Nursing Home for 8 weeks. Observation results were analyzed in the chart by descriptive analysis. As a result of the research, it has been observed that the more the frequency of the visits to nursing home increases, the more positive changes have been seen in social skills of students.As a result of the visits; It was determined that self-confidence increased, empathy, responsibility, communication, self-expression, starting and sustaining the relationship skills developed of the students.In addition, it was concluded that female students were more active than male students.
