Time management during lesson: A research about natural sciences lesson of third class students at primary schools

This study has been done in order to determine behaviors and point of views of teachers of third Grade at Social Studies lesson at Primary Schools.The research is descriptive and it was designed in basis of qualitative research techniques. 15 teachers of third Graders, who work at 5 primary schools among centre districts (Seyhan-Yüreğir) of Adana City and who were chosen by easily accessible condition sampling approach, form the study group of the research.Data for research were collected by semi-structured meeting and semi-structured observation techniques. In accordance with the general aim of the research, interviews have been done with 15 class masters about what they do concerning time management at Social Studies lesson, and 4 classes of voluntary teachers were observed. Obtained data was analyzed by content analysis.In the result of the research; it was seen that most teachers gave appropriate answers according to literature in theoretical perspective about the questions related to time management at Social Studies lesson, but at class observations, it was seen that those information was not put into practice at classrooms. It was seen that most teachers use 15-20 or 20-25 minutes of lesson time efficiently on average. Basic reason of this, according to the teachers, is short attention time of students; but at class observations, lessons to be interrupted due to extracurricular factors was seen as the basic reason.Keywords: Social Studies, Time Management at Lesson
