Establishing theoretical basis of destination value

This study consists of three chapters. In the first chapter, the context of the study was established through discussions held on concepts of place, tourism, travel, tourist mobility, tourist performance and tourist experience. In this context, discussions were held in the basis of functional insights such as tourist value, touristic product, destination branding, destination competitiveness and destination life cycle in order to support problem definitions. In the second chapter, the concept of destination value was defined and the factors affecting destination value were modeled based on the current literature, secondary data and document analysis. In the third chapter, importance weights of the factors and subfactors affecting destination value were measured by fuzzy criteria weighting by pairwise comparisons method. Some certain findings have been reached as a result of the analysis conducted with the judgments of 80 experts in the context of sea, sand, sun destinations and culture-history destinations. Most important results consist of findings that supporting the distinction of destination's intrinsic and extrinsic values. As a result of the research, it is considered that destination value approach is suitable for the use of information from different disciplines within the scope of tourism research and value-based approaches could provide solutions to the negative consequences of industrial tourism.
