Determination of rejuvenation strategies in scope of destination life cycle model: The case of Kas

The aim of the research is to determine the rejuvenation strategies for the destination examined within the scope of the destination life cycle model. In this context, rejuvenation strategies have been determined through the case of Kas (Antalya, Turkey) in the context of tourism development process, effects of tourism development, internal and external factors affecting development and stakeholder roles. In the study, one of the qualitative research designs and the case study types, the nested single case pattern was applied. Interviews, observations, documents, field notes and researcher's diary were used to collect research data. Participants of the research are Kas tourism stakeholders. In this context, face-to-face meetings were held with 43 stakeholders consisting of central / local administrations, local people, business owners/managers, NGOs, tourism workers and tourists. Inductive analysis approach has been adopted in the analysis of research data. As a result of the analysis, nine rejuvenation strategies were determined; product conversion, integrated sustainable development strategies, collaboration, promotion through the right channels, pursue a stable tourism policy, selective tourism strategy, tourism awareness, access and management of tourist movements, monitoring the quality and sustainability of tourism. As a result of the research, practical suggestions were offered to regional administration, local people, business owners/managers for sustainable development in tourism. In this context, suggestions are offered to correct the existing problems in tourism by correctly evaluating the resources available in reviving Kas tourism.
