Abstract (EN)

Newspapers; It is the reason for knowledge transfer of a society in aspects such as cultural, economic, political and religious; this is why it is very useful to look at the media organs published in that period in order to evaluate the society status in the Ottoman period. Newspapers in the Ottoman state were published through/by non-Muslims. For this reason, Devir Newspaper, published by Mehmet Sâlim Efendi is of great importance as it is the first private Turkish newspaper to be published in İzmir. While Devir newspaper addressed many political, economic, religious, and cultural areas in Aydın, Istanbul, and other provinces, it also included events under the name of "Havadis-i Hariciye" in many cities outside the Ottoman Empire. Therefore, this study, which consists of transcription and evaluation approaches will contribute towards the understanding of the social structure of the Ottoman period. Keywords: Devir, Mehmed Sâlim, Ġzmir, Newspaper
