Abstract (EN)

In reducing the potential of negative effects of disasters; the belief in preparedness for disasters is as important as the education and precautions about disasters. Especially, it is have a greater an active role about the responsibility to believe in being prepared for disasters at disaster management in working in the fields of job. The aim of this study, it was evaluated to the general disaster preparedness belief status (GDPBS) of 242 staff working at Bingöl Airport. In the study, the GDPBS scale, consisting of 32 items and 5-point Likert type questions, were applied to 205 volunteer participants (85% percent of whole universe). It was determined the value of KMO as 0.849 and the value of Cronbach's alpha coefficient as 0.890 It was calculated the values of mean and standard deviation belong to the scores of total disaster preparedness of belief and six sub-factors (perceived sensitivity, perceived seriousness, perceived usefulness, perceived barriers, actioners and self-efficacy). The comparison of sociodemographic variables and GDPBS mean scores was evaluated statistically. In the study, it was observed that the mean of GDPBS total score of the partcipants was high level (125.9±13.6). In particular, it was determined that the group who stated that they received disaster education in more than one place had a higher GDPBS mean than the grroup that did not receive education, and it was positive correlation between the variables of receiving disaster education and the mean of GDPBS score (R=0.250, p<0.001). There was no statistically significant different in the the mean of GDPBS score in terms of age, gender, the fields of occupation, income status, and the status of disaster survival as variables (p>0.05). On the other hand, it was determined that the mean of perceived seriousness sub-factor in the woman group, and the mean of perceived sensitivity in the staff group over the age of thirty-three and working for more than six years were higher (p<0.05). As a result, it is thought it may be more beneficial to conduct disaster-related trainnings to staff periodically and repeatedly, rather than being in a single time interval, in order to increase the belief level of general preparedness for disasters.
