The research on the adequacy of humor using of primary school teachers who works in private and state schools

The main aim of this study is to search the distribution of primary school teachers? humor styles according to demographic variables (sex, type of school, occupational experience), and to see if the scores of humor using in schools become distinct according to demographic variables and teachers? humor styles.Study group of this research, which can be seen as a Screening Model, consists of one hundred nineteen male and thirty seven female teachers who works in a state or a private primary school in the center parts of Antalya city; and Personal Information Form, Humor Styles Scale, and Humor Using Scale were applied to the teachers who participated in this study.The distribution of teachers? humor styles according to demographic variables was obtained by calculating the frequency and percentage values. If the teachers' level of use of humor becomes distinct according to the sex and school types variables was determined by using indipendent sample t Test. However, to see if there is a differentation in the teachers' level of use of humor according to occupational experience and humor style variable was determined by using Kruskal Wallis test because of the abnormal distribution of the data. The difference of the study groups was determined by using Mann Whitney U test. In the significance test of the obtained statistics .05 level was used.Findings show us that most of teachers have self-improving humor style. The scores of teachers? use of humor differentiate according to the occupational experience; however, it does not differentiate according to the teachers? humor style.The results which obtained within the framework of this research?s findings were interpreted together with results of previous studies, and again, recommendations were made in the light of these findings.Key Words: Humor, Humor Styles, Use of Humor
